An editor giving me feedback on a batch of images once told me to try and make sure that my wife wears a red jacket for shots of her walking in the countryside. This image reminded me of that advice.
The red car is roughly on a third both vertically and horizontally and holds the composition together. The people on either side of the road also add interest and balance. The narrowing of the road and buildings leads the eye into the picture. But it is the red car that makes the picture work by, literally adding colour and interest, and drawing the eye in to focus on it.
I wish that I’d cropped out that bus on the left. Drat! Anyway, somebody licensed it so perhaps they will do that themselves.
