View north towards Lancaut over incised meander, gorge and river spit, River Wye, near Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales, UK
This is a few miles upstream from Chepstow. The River Wye flows in a gorge towards the camera position. The meander shape of the river has been cut or incised into the land as a result of a change in sea level – the is called rejuvenation because the river had been made ‘young’ again and eroded vertically once more instead of laterally. The spit in the foreground is a depositional feature on the inside of a meander where the water flows more slowly. The Wye is tidal at the this point hence the high water level.
